I live to throw pots and fire my wood kiln at my home in the foothills of the Berkshires. Discovering the subtle beauty of wood fired pottery several years ago, my work now reflects the serendipitous effects of fire on functional ware. Most of my current work is thrown on the wheel and then altered. This allows me to make just about any shape I can imagine. Using glazes sparingly, I like all my pots to retain the look and feel of the clay, the hands, and the fire that created the piece. With the high temperatures reached in the kiln, all work is water tight, can be used in the dishwasher, oven or microwave. And it is safe for food.
Wood firing is an exhilarating and exhausting process. It is a community experience of shared labor and shared creativity, a mysterious entwining of people, process and pottery. A good firing is one with good results, good friends…and good food. I hope that you enjoy the finished pieces as much as I am fulfilled by making them.
